Why should you choose a fixed dental prosthesis?
Lack of teeth can be a rather difficult and complex problem – both the external appearance of the affected person and the usual lifestyle (feeding, speech, facial expressions) suffer. Although a few centuries ago teeth loss was the end of a brilliant and vigorous youth, with the development of prosthetic possibilities, this problem can be solved at any age and by methods accessible to each patient.
There are some types of prostheses (dentures). The safest, strongest and closest to the natural function of teeth is fixed prostheses or dental crowns. They are created in collaboration between dentists and dental technicians and are anchored to teeth or dental implants (their number depends largely on the degree of damage, number of missing teeth, bone resorption rate, bone density, etc.).
- It does not cause resorption (melting) of the maxillary bone;
- Mastication is more effective, patients can use a wider range of foods without fear of damaging or blocking the prosthesis;
- Permanently corrects physiognomy (constant presence of teeth supports cheeks, rejuvenates aspect of face);
- Does not cause gum injuries or ulcers;
- The mastication force is distributed correctly, without overlapping the teeth;
- There is no risk of falling during speech or laughter.

Metal-ceramic dental crowns are widely applied in dentistry. The metal-ceramic crown and the metal-ceramic bridge have a supporting metal skeleton over which several layers of ceramics are applied. Between the mechanical skeleton and the ceramic layer, oxides form, which contributes to the chemical strengthening of the bond between the two materials (more durable than the metal-composite or metal-acrylate combination).
Generally, the alloys used are specially designed for prostheses. Thus, simple metal alloys, titanium alloys, gold alloys can be used. Dental ceramics are also special, one of the main requirements for it is to have a wide range of colors to choose the most suitable shade for each patient and their requirement of dental aesthetics. In addition, ceramics must be really durable. The thickness of the ceramic layer depends on the application area, varying between 1.5-2 mm.
Zirconium oxide dental crowns are relatively recent in stomatology. Due to the exceptional resistance (both mechanical and high-pressure) it can be used even in the construction of nuclear reactors. Obviously, zirconium has become the toughest metal used in dentistry.
Zirconium is bio-inert (does not cause allergies), has excellent physical and mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, extraordinary density, and a purity of 99.9%.
Lithium disilicate dental crowns (E-MAX) are also a new method, this being the last material proposed for the prosthesis. The E-MAX interlacing ceramic dental crowns are the most aesthetic with superior translucency. They are widely used for making crowns and dental facets.
